A Daybed is a Functional Choice for College Students

When it comes to furnishing an apartment, many college students look to their parents or relatives for any hand-me-downs that they may be willing to lend them. Most students do not have the luxury of buying brand new furniture and appliances in order to furnish their new apartment once they move out of the dorms. Because they are most likely on a fixed income based on their student loans, spending a lot of money on furniture items such as a couch, daybed or table is not always an option for them. Spending money on books, food and rent is typically where most college students put their money first.

While most college students can do without having a couch, coffee table or even a dining room table, there are some furniture pieces that college students cannot live without. One furniture item in particular is a bed. Getting the proper amount of sleep and rest is important to the success of any college student. Studies have proven that a student’s grade will start to suffer if they are not getting enough sleep during the night. Because of the fact that not enough rest can mean poor grades and performance in the classroom, a bed is an essential piece of furniture for any college student. Many college students suffer enough with lack of sleep because of pulling all-nighters for tests and staying up at all hours of the night trying to finish a paper, therefore they should not lose any more rest because of poor sleeping arrangements.

When choosing the right bed for a college student, there are numerous factors to take into consideration. The first factor to consider before making a big purchase is the size of the apartment and bedroom where the bed will be used. Many college apartments offer minimal space for the students, therefore a queen size or a king size bed is most likely not an option. Due to spacing restrictions, students are most likely going to have to go for a daybed in order to fit in the apartment. Often, students also have to fit a desk and dresser into the bedroom, so a daybed will offer the most space to fit other furniture into the room, which also serving a dual purpose: as a couch as well.

Because most college students have a roommate living with them, the bedroom is the one room in the house where they are able to have guests and hang out with friends without interruption. Because of this, many college students would also like a seating area for their friends. While most bedrooms do not have efficient enough space to allow for a seating area, there are options around this. One option is purchasing a daybed. This particular type of bed is the size of a twin bed and offers a place to sleep during the night. However, during the day, the bed also serves as a seating area for guests. The frame of a daybed typically has sides and a back, making it a comfortable seating option for guests.

When it comes to choosing a daybed, there are numerous options to look at. This particular bed comes in all sorts of colors and materials. They can be made from wood and stained a particular color, or they can also be made from sturdy metal. While this particular bed serves as both a seating area and a bed to sleep on at night, they can also serve another purpose, storage. Many beds offer storage underneath the frame of the bed. This is very important to college students who do not have a lot of space to store things. So not only does it serve as a sleeping area but it also gives students a place to store other things that they may need, while also serving as a seating area. Daybeds truly are multipurpose!
